Heather Lenahan | Founder & Director
Heather has been a teacher and educator since 1995, and nothing brings her more joy than making a difference in the lives of her students. She grew up on a farm in rural Oregon and was actively involved in classical music for over 20 years - playing the violin and piano, teaching, and participating in a variety community symphony orchestras. After being introduced to contra dancing in 2004, her heart lit up in a way that she couldn't ignore and decided to shift her career to ballroom dance. A few years later she moved to California to pursue professional ballroom dance training
As a high-honors graduate of the Ballroom Dance Teachers College (the nation’s premier career ballroom teacher training school) and a ProDVIDA certified instructor, Heather holds numerous Associate and Master degrees of Dance in the American and International style dances. The comprehensive exams for accredited professional certification requires proficiency in dance (as both lead and follow), an understanding of body movement, syllabus pedagogy, technique and the art of teaching. Heather has also competed in many NDCA ballroom dance competitions - Autumn Dance Classic, City Lights Open, San Francisco Open and International Grand Ball.
After teaching successfully for many years in the San Francisco Bay Area, Heather moved to the Treasure Valley to be closer to her loved ones and is excited about sharing her love of dance with this new community.
With an extensive 20-year background in office administration, Heather has edited several DVIDA Manuals (a nationally recognized syllabus for ballroom dance), and has been the Office Manager and Educational Advisor for the Ballroom Dance Teachers College since 2013. Additionally, she is a staff teacher for the College preparing students for certification or training them to become ballroom dance instructors.
Heather specializes in teaching social dance, working with beginners as well as the more advanced. Her nurturing and patient demeanor allows students to explore this beautiful art form. And her expertise and ability to impart technique in easy-to-remember (and implement) terms will guide dancers in the areas of proper footwork, controlled and stable movement, contra-body movement, rise and fall, swing and sway, cuban motion, swing hip action, improved posture, poise and balance, and effective, consistent lead and follow.
Follow your heart, let love lead your life. Follow your dreams. Be yourself, an angel of kindness. There is nothing you cannot do. I believe in you.
